Study Shows That People Spend Nine Years Of Their Lives Looking At Their Phones
How much time do you spend on your phone? Everyone knows that smartphone addiction is a real issue. While it may not be as big of an issue as people like to make it seem, it is a problem at the end of the day which means that it needs to be addressed. A study that was recently conducted by WhistleOut, a mobile comparison site, has revealed that modern people will end up spending about nine years of their life look at their phones.
With the coronavirus pandemic in full swing, this number is probably going to go up. Millennials are the biggest culprits here, spending on average 3.7 hours a day on their phones. Gen X do a little bit better by spending daily about 3 hours of their time on their phone, and baby boomers come in at around 2.5 hours a day. All of this might make it seem like the world is about to end. After all, nine years is a very long time to be doing anything at all. With all of that having been said and out of the way, it is important to note that this information needs to be put in a certain context before it can be fully understood otherwise it might just end up being little more than alarmist hyperbole.
There are lots of things that we spend years of our life doing. The average person will spend about 20-25 years straight sleeping, and that’s if they don’t sleep enough or don’t live very long. At least the same number of years and usually a lot more is spent working. We spend about five whole years eating food over the course of our lives even if we take relatively quick meals. Hence, spending nine years on your phone is not that big of a deal, especially if you are being productive while using said phone.
